CMSgt John R. "Doc" McCauslin

USAFE Senior Enlisted Advisor

Aug '84 - Apr '87

Significant achievements as USAFE/SEA:

- Worked with AAFES Europe, while serving on Board of Directors, to get soft drinks authorized for sale in the commissary because soft drinks were only available through AAFES at a much higher price. This was a big savings for enlisted families.

- To increase quality of life for Airmen working at remote munitions storage sites and isolated mountain top communications stations, Chief McCauslin arranged for a monthly subscription of books and magazines to be sent to these sites from the USAFE library. He also had large screen TV's installed at mountain top facilities.

- Created access to the MWR-operated Apollo Hotel in Athens, Greece for all active duty Airmen and their families. Hotel previously reserved only for senior officers.

- Established consistency in dress/appearance of graduates attending NCO Academies at Kapaun Air Station, Germany and Upwood, United Kingdom. Previously, academy students wore various uniforms of the day for graduation ceremonies.

- Arranged procurement/installation of exterior storage units for all dormitories USAFE-wide to house bulky personal items (TV boxes, bicycles, etc...) that were formerly cluttering hallways, small dorm rooms and office space.

- Initiated USAF Anniversary Ball each September at Ramstein with Ambassadors, CINCUSAFE, NAF/Wing leadership in attendance. "Each year there were nearly 2000 in attendance and we held them in a hangar with a touch of class," said Chief McCauslin.

- Added prestige and significance to USAFE's Outstanding Airman/NCO/Jr Officer/ Civilian of the Year program and honors banquet held annually at Ramstein.
