Don't wait for extraordinary opportunities. Seize common occasions and make them great. -Orison Swett Marden
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman's Medal to Sergeant Curvin Stephen Hunt, United States Air Force, for heroism involving risk of life at the corner of Rheinstrasse and Schiersteinerstrasse, Wiesbaden, Federal Republic of Germany, on 20 April 1991. On that date, Sergeant Hunt rushed to the area where an apartment complex was on fire as a result of three consecutive gas explosions. With complete disregard for his own safety, Sergeant Hunt, despite the hazard of further gas explosions, unhesitatingly entered the flaming building and persevered in his humanitarian rescue efforts until he succeeded in evacuating all residents of the structure. His unceasing efforts ensured no loss of life despite severe damage to the structure. His intervention also prevented a panicking mother from dropping her toddler form a third story window. Sergeant Hunt convinced the mother to hold onto the child until police and fire rescue teams arrived at the scene. By his courageous actions and humanitarian regard for his fellowman, Sergeant Hunt has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
