Being a Crew Chief (2A353A)(My first AFSC) on F-15E's for the 494th Fighter Squadron (Go Panthers!) at Lakenheath was one of THE coolest career fields to have overseas. I arrived in early spring and was deployed to Turkey for Operation Provide Comfort that August. Just a fantastic group of people and a terrific mission to accomplish. On our time off there was a little time to explore all the ancient historical sites in the region. I will never forget it.
I enlisted as Fire Control Systems Specialist and did my Tech School at Lowery AFB, CO. 3 months after I arrived at Carswell AFB, TX that AFCS was de-comissioned so I spent 3 months working side by side with the crew chiefs until I was reassigned to the 7th CES. I was the last Electrician on Carswell when it was turned over to the Navy and was renamed NAS Fort Worth JRB. I took accepted the Early out and reenlisted with the USAFR 301st CES. I finished that enlistment and then was recruited back to NAS FT JRB with the 457 FS as Intelligence. I received the Air Force Achievement Medal as an A1C but was discharged from the USAFR in Jan 2001 as a Sargeant.
